Question of the month June 2016 – Why are leading dots on table ignored?

Create this simple table

create table #test(id int)

Now query it using the following code

select id from ...#test

It returns an empty result. The question is Why are leading dots on the table are ignored?

  1. because there is no data inside table

    also
    1. Value before 1st dot will act as Server Name
    2. Value before 2nd dot will act as DB Name
    3. Value After rd dot represents Table Name

    If no values are provided on query , by default it will prever current server \ db name

    Try this :

    create table #test(id int)

    insert into #test
    select 1

    select id from …#test
